This 4k flatscreen documentary was produced with our production partner Tom Lucas for streaming on Amazon Prime. It investigates some of the tornado disasters that have had a massive impact on human society. Visualizations from the film can be seen here.
My contribution to the film focused on a time evolving volumetric simulation of the tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in 2011. We rendered this scene both with tracer tubes and as a photorealistic cloud. We collaborated with a GIS researcher at NCSA to register the clouds with satellite imagery of the actual city of Joplin to drive home the point that the data was focused on saving real lives.
